Listening to the voice of the players, Blizzard Entertainment decided to restore World of Warcraft to an almost original state, allowing fans to go back to the "good old days" and the rest of us to lick a bit of video game history. In the text you will find information on what exactly WoW Classic is, how to play it, how it differs from the version from a few years ago, etc.
Premiere of WoW: Classic
World of Warcraft Classic is available in Poland since August 27, 2019. The game was released on Windows and macOS computers. The game is not available in Polish language version.
World of Warcraft Classic is a special version of the extremely popular MMORPG World of Warcraft, which faithfully reproduces the state of this game from 2006, specifically before the release of the expansion The Burning Crusade. Both the visuals and individual gameplay elements (combat system, development system, zone layout, etc.) have been restored in the form known from the original.
The action takes place in the world of Azeroth relatively shortly after the events presented in Warcraft III. There are two powerful factions competing in it: Covenant and Horde. When creating a character (WoW Classic requires the creation of a completely new avatar), we can choose from eight races originally released. The first faction is represented by humans, gnomes, dwarves, and night elves; the second - orcs, trolls, tauren, and the forsaken (undead). Also available are nine classes known from the original: druid, hunter, mage, priest, rogue, warrior, sorcerer, paladin and shaman, but it is worth noting that the latter two have access only to representatives (in turn) of the Alliance and the Horde. The maximum level is 60.
WoW Classic is available for free to anyone with an active World of Warcraft subscription. After downloading and launching the Battle.net application, you need to:
In the list on the left, select World of Warcraft.
Select World of Warcraft Classic in the "Version" menu.
Click the "Install" button.
As mentioned above, WoW Classic requires the creation of a completely new character (we can create up to ten characters in total on one server).
The monthly fee depends on how long we buy access to the game. There are three options:
WoW: Classic vs WoW: Vanilla
The intention of the developers was to recreate the beginnings of World of Warcraft as closely as possible, so the differences between Classic and the 2006 vanilla version are essentially minor.
As Ion Hazzikostas, the game's director, said, the biggest change is actually the integration with the Battle.net app and the use of its modern community features. It doesn't make sense, he explained in one of the pre-release interviews, to isolate people playing WoW Classic from their friends playing, say, Overwatch, even if the role of AOL Instant Messenger, ICQ, or other communicators could be successfully played today by Discord (note here: despite this communication facility, we won't be able to form teams with people playing on other servers)
Apart from that, some minor adjustments have been made, like easier removal of items from mailboxes, and the option to play with improved visuals has been made available to those who would like to use this feature.
Apart from these examples, WoW Classic is just the old WoW with all the good stuff. This not only applies to the broader content (locations, quests, raids, battlefields for PvP battles, etc.) and mechanics, but also to the gameplay balance. In comparison to later versions, the old WoW required more strenuous grind and more multiplayer cooperation (solutions for those who prefer solo play began to be implemented over time). In its uncompromising approach, Blizzard Entertainment even recreated the bugs and glitches that once existed in the game as long as they didn't ruin the fun.
