In WoW Shadowlands, it is much harder than in the previous expansions to quickly get good equipment for your hero. In the raid, far fewer items drop per boss and the world quests are also limited. In Mythic-Plus dungeons, on the other hand, there is as much loot as you invest time in. Thanks to the weekly treasure chamber, a really good piece of loot awaits you at the end of the week, if you have been diligent and completed high keystones. It's not surprising that countless groups of heroes fight their way through the eight different dungeons every week. However, these groups often consist of the same class combinations, because with the launch of WoW Shadowlands, the popularity in the keystone instances has changed significantly. Some classes are now much more popular than others. Whether that's due to class performance or general popularity is hard to say, of course. But it is still noticeable that some specializations are hardly present, while others are encountered again and again. We took a look at all the logs of the mythical dungeons to find out which playstyles are actually the most popular. However, it should be said beforehand that we can only fall back on the data from Warcraft logs. These are not complete, since not every run is logged. However, they give a good impression of the overall situation.
In the past expansion, there was hardly any way around the Warrior Tank in Mythic-Plus dungeons. Defensively and offensively, they were the measure of all things. However, that has changed significantly with Shadowlands. Their damage output is a shadow of their former days and is nowhere near as good as Paladins or Demon Hunters. The former are a bit more stable defensively, but not as mobile. Therefore, Demon Hunters become more dominant as the keystones get higher. After a certain level, you can't just tank many enemies anyway, you have to control them and/or kite them - which the agile Demon Hunter can do much better than the leisurely Paladin.
Blood Death Knights and Brewmaster Monks also suffer mainly from the low damage dealt. Nevertheless, it should be noted at this point that basically every dungeon is possible with every tank - defensively, no one falls behind. Only the Blood Death Knight was a bit weak, but recently got a buff that will be noticeable.
The king of BfA has also been overthrown in the healer camp. The Restoration Druids, who were healers in every other dungeon in the last expansion, have been overtaken by the Shamans. Only by a very narrow margin, but still. The pure healing power plays a major role here. And the strength of the shamans in the raid. Sounds strange, but it's true. Because many high-class healers switched to the shaman with Shadowlands, because the shaman is extremely good in Nathria Castle. Of course, this is reflected in the fact that these players then play a lot of M+ with their main characters.
Holy Paladins and Restoration Druids do a little less healing, but can make up for it with extra damage, which is especially effective at medium-high levels. In general, though, the balancing is pretty good even at the high levels. All healers are present at the very highest levels, though with varying frequency,
The days when rogues were virtually mandatory in Mythic-Plus seem to be a thing of the long past. Dagger-wielders have left their heyday behind, as have Devastation Demon Hunters, Windrunner Monks, and Beastlord Hunters. The new king is the Marksmanship Hunter, who also puts up pretty dominant numbers in the raid. He connects massive damage to single targets and also regularly deals extreme burst damage to many targets thanks to the Pact ability. And if that wasn't all, he is very mobile, has stuns, interrupts, control effects and, and, and. The hunter is the egg-sucking lizard among the damage dealers.
Even Fire Mages and Balance Druids, who are also not only very popular, but also quite strong in the dungeons, have to admit defeat. It's also interesting to note the popularity of the Shadow Priest, who didn't necessarily excel in mythic dungeons in the past. However, that has changed with the move to Shadowlands.
It also shows quite impressively that melee fighters are less popular than in BfA. This is partly due to the new affixes, with which melee fighters have significantly more problems than ranged fighters. There are also fewer spells that need to be interrupted. Instead, more control effects are needed, where the ranges are not really behind the melees.
