The problem with balancing borrowed player power seems to be a big one with WoW Patch 9.2, or so it seems. That's because Community Manager Kaivax responded on the WoW forums to player Vizzlecrux's question, "What happens to Shards of Domination in Patch 9.2?" by saying that with the release of End of Eternity, these shards will only work in a fraction of the old Shadowlands content.
"Our plan," Kaivax said in response to the discussion Vizzlecrux sparked with his question, "which we're trying to implement on the test server right now, is to turn off the Shards of Domination in Zereth Mortis (the new zone), in Mausoleum of the First (the new raid), and in all PvP content and dungeons with the release of End of Eternity."
If this is the case, then with the release of patch 9.2 the Shards of Domination will only work in the old Shadowlands Pact zones, in the Maw, in the Sanctum of Domination as well as in Torghast. It should be possible to try this out on the WoW test server shortly. However, it is still unknown when exactly patch 9.2 for WoW will be released.
Some of the WoW fans are happy with such an arrangement, but for others the announced step does not go far enough. In their eyes, the shards should basically be turned off so that they can finally clean out their inventory and not still have to have different armor sets in their pockets for different contents of the game.
WoW player Arelina comments that the concept of borrowed player power is cheese, and not one of the good kind. "Realistically, shards are only useful in the raid, and then people are still supposed to farm shards .... To farm content they've already farmed?" WoW fan Varith, on the other hand, is a little bit indignant: "I can't help it, I have to laugh at the fact that this borrowed-player power mechanic won't even survive for more than one patch."
How do you guys feel about that? Are you happy to see shards become mostly irrelevant with 9.2? And what do you think of the concept of borrowed power?
