With this WoW Shadowlands ID, the first players gain rank 6 on the new faction The Archivist Codex. This will give them access to additional socket slots that can be added to gear thanks to alloy bending facetters. The exception to this, however, is the new Domination items.

This gear already has a socket slot for the new Shards of Domination, and cannot get another socket slot via the Facetter. Players have already tested this out - as seen in the clip below.

This is a previously undocumented change to the PTR. On the test realm, it was still possible to use reign and bonus sockets at the same time. At first glance, this change doesn't seem to be a big deal. Apparently, the power level of the characters won't increase as much. But in reality, it creates an imbalance between armor classes.

Assuming that you use the maximum five Dominion items from the Sanctum of Dominion for your maximum character power, you can place five additional normal sockets in your equipment as a leather wearer, whereas cloth wearers can only place three.

This is how many additional sockets the different armor classes can use

It should also be noted that newly forged or upgraded Legendarys now automatically have a socket as well. Blizzard has not yet commented on this issue.
