Since the end of WoW: Legion, there has been a gigantic sword stuck in the planet Azeroth

, which the fallen Titan Sargeras rammed into it. Back then, we sucked out Sargeras' evil energy with our artifact weapons. Now the giant sword stands as a kind of memorial in the desert of Silithus. Again and again we asked ourselves how much or if the World Soul of Azeroth was affected, if Azeroth now bleeds and how we can remove the sword again. Despite initial excavations by goblins and gnomes, Sargeras' sword will be stuck in Silithus for a while. At the same time, Lead Narrative Designer Steve Danuser already promised that something would happen to the sword.

In our interview with Game Director Ion Hazzikostas, the question of what will happen to the sword came up again. He answered matter-of-factly that we pulled the evil energy out of the sword in 2018. The mega-sword is only a small splinter, he said

.

Was Ion's response sarcasm?

Despite a lot of other interesting information from the interview about the new Dragonflight expansion, this statement was surprisingly the

dominant topic in the community. Many fans and influencers suspected that Ion was just joking. Others made up completely different things from the German translation (although the original English transcript can be found on page 3 of the interview article ...)

Unfortunately, we are not allowed to publish Ion's reaction. You'll have to believe us when we tell you that he smiled at the response (saying it was just a sliver), but sarcasm was not clearly evident.

It was more to be interpreted like "the sword is not so important for now". But that doesn't fit with the Lead Narrative Designer's promises.Recommended Editorial ContentAtthis point you will find external content from [PLATTFORM]. In the interview with WoW streamer Asmongold, the question came up again. Here, the game director only dryly answered "What sword?". This answer was most certainly sarcastic and has since become a meme. Even the official WoW Twitter channel took the Game Director's answer with humor.

A meme is born

Whatever WoW developers plan to do with the sword in the future, Hazzikosta's statement has definitely become a meme.

WoW: Final raid of the season of the championship will soon land on the PTR

Soon we will learn what changes Blizzard is planning for the final raid of WoW: Season of Mastery.

Ion's response brought forth a lot of conjecture in the community. Will the story around the sword be ignored until the next expansion, or will we somehow pull it out of Azeroth with patch 10.0? Should we just leave the sword alone and forget about it? Some even wish to leave Sargeras' weapon there forever. What would you do with the giant sword in Silithus if you were WoW developers? And do you think it will play a role in the lore for Dragonflight? We're looking forward to hearing your opinions in the comments.
