If you check out the Blizzard Store, you'll find four versions of World of Warcraft:

  • Version No. 1: Sign up for a WoW subscription and you'll get access to WoW Classic as well as the current version of WoW including all expansions up to and including Legion.
  • Version No.2: If you transfer almost 45 Euros (for the standard version) or almost 60 Euros (for the Digital Deluxe Edition) to California in addition to the subscription, you will also receive the current expansion Battle for Azeroth on top of version No. 1.
  • Version No. 3: You pre-order the upcoming Shadowlands expansion, again with three options to choose from: the "Base Edition" for 39.99 Euros, the "Heroic Edition" for 54.99, and the "Epic Edition" for 74.99 - you can find out the differences on the official website.
  • Version No. 4: To make the confusion perfect, there is also the Complete Collection with all current content plus Shadowlands in the "Heroic Edition" for 79.99 Euros or in the "Epic Edition" for 99.99 Euros.

On the official WoW website, Blizzard has announced that changes for this variety of versions are expected soon:

"With the release of the Shadowlands preparation patch, Battle for Azeroth will be included by default in every World of Warcraft subscription. No additional purchase is necessary."

In other words, you won't need to order the Complete Edition to have access to all of the latest content and Shadowlands new features starting October 14, as the normal pre-order of Shadowlands plus an ongoing subscription will grant you the same content.
