  • Weather effects have been added to Stormwind and Orgrimmar.

CLASSES

  • Characters who have unlocked Flying can now fly in the Shadowlands in Ghost Form.
  • The Kyrian ability Vial of Equanimity and healing potions no longer reset the timer for melee attacks.
  • Some area-of-effect abilities no longer have a target limit and instead deal reduced damage starting at the 5th or 8th target. The affected abilities are listed in their respective class's area.
    • Developer Comment: With the release of Shadowlands, we reduced the maximum number of targets hit for several abilities. This was done to specifically address some gameplay issues related to attracting large numbers of enemies in dungeons. Our goal here was to reduce the effectiveness of area effects with high damage spikes against larger groups (i.e. 15-20 enemies) while increasing their effectiveness against smaller groups (e.g. 3-5 enemies). This strength should be clear from the tooltips of the respective spells. Those abilities that remained "unrestricted" generally do less damage over a longer period of time (e.g. 'Blizzard' or 'Consecration'). Among other changes, we wanted the "lure in as many enemies as possible and then use all abilities to blast them away" strategy that was prevalent in various content to take a back seat.
    • We've received lots of feedback that the fact that these abilities don't hit all enemies in their area of effect feels wrongfor WoW, and also creates a problem for trivial encounters like completing classic content. For many of the previously unrestricted abilities in Shadowlands that have been given a strict target restriction, we are changing the damage to "deals reduced damage to targets beyond 5 or 8 targets" (meaning the ability deals full damage to 5 targets and reduced damage after the 5th target). This increases the total damage of the ability with the number of targets, but decreases the damage dealt to each target. This solution allows the appropriate abilities and their respective classes to continue to serve an important niche function against small groups of 4-6 enemies.
  • DEATH KNIGHT
    • The following area effect abilities no longer have a target limit and now deal reduced damage after the 5th target:

There is also a new achievement for the most versatile champions of Kirin Tor. Players who complete all seven challenges with different characters on their Battle.net account will receive a unique flying mount: the Sailing Magic Foliant. • Developer comment: Demonic gates are sometimes difficult to click in the thick of battle of a boss encounter and other high-pressure situations. To counter potential frustration when you fail to use the gate in time, we created the Gate Control Shard, which can be used to activate demonic gates as an alternative to clicking or using macros.

This is in addition to the current reward with a 20% chance of receiving double the normal amount of relic fragments from rare enemies and treasures.
    • Two new quests have been added: "Tracking Relics" at reputation level 3, where the bonus starts with an initial 10% chance of double relic fragments, and "Relic Hunter" at reputation level 5, where the chance of double relics is eventually increased to 40%. Both quests also increase the average amount of relics that show up as bonus loot, in daily quests, or in weekly reward chests.

PVP

  • Low item level PvP gear now scales to a higher item level in PvP situations. This should mitigate the power imbalance somewhat, allowing new characters to feel like they can keep up on Battlegrounds and in arenas. This adjustment does not affect higher item level PvP gear.
  • Additional PvP ranks and item level ranks have been added to provide a more detailed path for players moving up ranks.

Many similar buffs (such as Wrathful Retribution) can already be unbanned, but those of mages and warlocks could still be removed due to the fantasy nature of their direct magic. However, we find that the intended effect and game dynamics of these abilities are weakened if their effects are banned often.
We are intentionally excluding 'Incinerate' from this change due to balance concerns, but this decision may change in a future patch.

Many similar buffs (such as Wrathful Retribution) can already be unbanned, but those of mages and warlocks could still be removed due to the fantasy nature of their direct magic. • Fixed a bug where 'Rune Hunter' was triggering too often.
    • HUNTERS
      • Petrified Pet Food damage now increases with each stack of the anima bonus as intended.

  • IMPROVEMENTS FOR THE DUNGEON BROWSER
    • Accounts now require a Battle.net Authenticator to enter custom text when registering a group for dungeons, raids, or rated PvP. All players can still search and join others' groups.
      • Developer comment: A dungeon browser full of ads bugs us as much as it bugs you. One challenge we've faced in reducing these ads is that they are often posted by hacked or other expendable accounts, so in-game message penalties are not an effective deterrent. And relying on notifications still means that some players will be annoyed by spam before it is reported. Battle.net Authenticator is available for mobile devices and provides an easy and convenient way to secure your World of Warcraft account. If for some reason you don't want to use it, you can still register groups whose description will be automatically generated (based on the raid name and difficulty level selected in drop-down menus or based on the mythical keystone in your pockets). Our goal is to clean up the dungeon browser without restricting normal players too much.
    • You can now search by a range of numbers (searching for "5-9", for example, will find keystones from levels 5 to 9).
    • Dungeon browser information is automatically generated based on the creator's keystone. The information can still be entered manually.

    • Group creators can now select a playstyle to set expectations for the group.
    • PvP rating is now displayed when browsing rated PvP entries and in the applicant window.
    • Group creators can now browse the directories.
    • PvP categories now pull the player's PvP item level instead of the common item level.
  • IMPROVED FEEDBACK FOR CHAT MESSAGES
